Title:

Educator

 

Reporting Relationships:

Supervised directly by the Director of Education.

 

Brief Position Summary:

The Educator leads museum classes of up to 30 students and performs science demonstrations both in the museum, outdoors on the grounds, and in outreach at schools, libraries, and other public events as assigned. Experience in teaching and training people of all ages is helpful. The Educator is responsible for visitor interaction on the museum floor. This is a busy, active position requiring a person who is flexible and good at handling multiple responsibilities. This person will use informal learning techniques to facilitate exhibits and provide demonstrations for visitors. The Educator will assist with the check-in of field trips and other groups. This person will work closely with other education staff and volunteers to provide a positive experience for visitors. This is a full time position.

 

Description of Duties:

• Must be confident and comfortable speaking before groups of up to 250 people of all ages.

• Use inquiry and other informal learning techniques to engage and inspire visitors of all ages.

• Provide excellent customer service to all museum visitors.

• Operate Tesla Coil and conduct theater and Digital Dome shows as assigned.

• Must work proportionate share of special events.

• May participate on team projects in writing educational programming in area of specialization and as assigned by the Director of Education.

• Helps maintain all teaching supplies, props, models, specimens, etc. in classroom and office areas.

• Organize and maintain supplies and materials used for programs and ensure cleanliness of all work areas.

• Provide museum floor coverage as scheduled.

• Provide general backup to present programs as assigned.

• Lead museum summer camps as assigned and provide backup assistance to other staff members during camps.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Perform pre-existing educational programs at schools in various counties in Arkansas as assigned. We train the programming.

 

Requirements and Special Skills and Abilities: 

• Bachelor’s degree in education, biology, zoology, science education, physics, chemistry or related field preferred.

• Must be a team player.

• Must be very energetic, engaging, outgoing, patient, and able to relate to and work with a wide variety of individuals and people of all ages.

• Work a full time schedule occasionally unsupervised.

• Must be available for very early morning work, evenings, and weekends.

• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and a telephone.

Title:

Education Associate

Part time, temporary, with potential for full time permanent 15-20 hours per week to start.

Pay commensurate with experience.

 

Reporting Relationships:

Supervised by Director of Education.

 

Brief Position Summary:

Assist visitors and students of all ages in developing an understanding of the process of making scientific observations and discoveries to inspire them to actively explore science related topics and learn about the principles and properties of light, energy, sound, perception, matter, etc. Other duties include performing live scripted shows in the Tesla Theater and on the museum floor demonstrating various aspects of science. Candidates must have experience working with people of all ages and be comfortable speaking before groups. Experience in teaching or training is helpful. Bachelor's degree is preferred and training will be provided. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required for travel to off-site outreach programs.

 

Requirements and Special Skills:

• High school diploma required.

• Preference given for experience in education and/or museums.

• Must be friendly, outgoing, and personable.

• Ability to deliver a dynamic and engaging presentation to large audiences (up to 150 people).

• Must be organized and able to complete tasks in a timely manner without direct supervision.

• Ability to relate to a wide variety of individuals.

• Ability to work effectively with others and be a team player.

• Able to periodically lift up to 30 lbs.

• Physically able to walk/stand throughout work shift.

Title:

Guest Services Associate

 

Reporting Relationships:

Supervised by the Director of Guest Services. May also be occasionally supervised by Guest Services Coordinator. Works closely with Exhibit Technicians, museum floor staff and volunteers, Director of Informal Learning, and Director of Educational Programs.

 

Brief Position Summary:

This person is primarily responsible for daily admissions and museum store sales. This person will convey a positive and upbeat attitude towards customers and provide friendly service both in person and over the phone. Also responsible for register accountability.

 

Description of Duties:

• Directly responsible for admissions, museum store sales, and answering phone calls

• Departmental responsibility for operation of simulator

• Promotion and sales of memberships

• Promotion, sales, and coordination of birthday parties

• Oversight of wheelchair and stroller use

• Must work proportionate share of after-hours events

• Responsible for daily cash of the registers

• May also be assigned specific work related to other departments depending on availability,

   talents, and skills

 

Requirements and Special Skills:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.

• Preferred experience in a retail sales setting including inventory management

• Experience customer relations

• Must be well organized

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

• Friendly, outgoing personality and ability to relate to a wide variety of people

• Ability to work a flexible schedule occasionally unsupervised

• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation

• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
