Title:

Director of Development

 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Executive Director.

 

Brief Position Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for all aspects of development and fundraising activities including, but not exclusive to, grant writing, sponsorship solicitation, donor stewardship, annual giving solicitation, membership management and development of semi-annual fundraising events. The Director of Development must research and evaluate potential donor sources and coordinate giving opportunities with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required in Communication, Public Administration, Management or related field.

 

Experience Required:

Five (5) years’ development experience preferred. Masters Degree may substitute for 3 years’ experience. Some supervisory experience required.

 

Description of Duties:

• Work closely with Board of Trustees, Director of Marketing, Director of Guest Services,

   and Director of Finance.

• Establish, coordinate and ensure the success of all fundraising activities.

• Work closely with Museum staff and Executive Director to determine fundraising needs of

   each department.

• Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to determine long-term fundraising goals

   for the Museum.

• Research and evaluate potential local, state, national and federal donor sources including but

   not limited to individual donors, corporations, foundations, in-kind and public funding.

• Develop and manage the annual fund drive by appraising potential donor sources on a

   year-by-year basis.

• Develop and manage special Capital Project Campaigns.

• Ensure prompt and courteous follow up with all donors.

• Create all donor recognition materials with input from Executive Director.

• Accurately and efficiently track and maintain the Museum’s donor database, GiftWorks, to ensure

   precise record keeping.

• Work with Director of Finance to reconcile, track and accurately report donations.

• Establish, oversee and coordinate all special events that relate to Museum fundraising.

• Oversee Museum Membership program, coordinate associated mailings and establish

   membership benefits to ensure program growth.

• Work with Executive Director to establish annual fundraising goals for the position.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements and Special Skills:

• Ability to work as an independent problem-solver

• Strong planning and organization skills, with attention to detail

• Ability to coordinate many activities simultaneously

• Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills

• Flexibility in work schedule and work assignments; weekend and evening work is required

• Desire and ability to work as part of a team

• Basic computer skills in word processing, financial spreadsheets and scheduling

• Ability to create and work within a budget

• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation

 

Title:

Guest Services Associate

 

Reporting Relationships:

Supervised by the Director of Guest Services. May also be occasionally supervised by Guest Services Coordinator. Works closely with Exhibit Technicians, museum floor staff and volunteers, Director of Informal Learning, and Director of Educational Programs.

 

Brief Position Summary:

This person is primarily responsible for daily admissions and museum store sales. This person will convey a positive and upbeat attitude towards customers and provide friendly service both in person and over the phone. Also responsible for register accountability.

 

Description of Duties:

• Directly responsible for admissions, museum store sales, and answering phone calls

• Departmental responsibility for operation of simulator

• Promotion and sales of memberships

• Promotion, sales, and coordination of birthday parties

• Oversight of wheelchair and stroller use

• Must work proportionate share of after-hours events

• Responsible for daily cash of the registers

• May also be assigned specific work related to other departments depending on availability,

   talents, and skills

 

Requirements and Special Skills:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.

• Preferred experience in a retail sales setting including inventory management

• Experience customer relations

• Must be well organized

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

• Friendly, outgoing personality and ability to relate to a wide variety of people

• Ability to work a flexible schedule occasionally unsupervised

• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation

• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
