Add-on & Fee-based Programs

Mid-America Science Museum not only provides informal education through hands-on science exhibits, but takes this learning experience to another level by providing programs that focus on specific science topics. Our programming department develops special programs that fulfill the educational requirements of various audiences. We want you to have fun while you learn. Whether you’re a Scout Leader looking for badge programs, a home school or public school educator seeking Arkansas Frameworks related programs, or families looking for workshops or edutainment, you'll find our programs rewarding.

Public School Special Programs

 Add a deeper component to your visit for only $3+ tax per person (minimum of 12 students) ) for a 30-minute hands-on classroom session, designed to give a more in-dept explanation of each subject matter as it relates to our exhibits.

 

Geology and Geography

Erosion Explosion.  Visit a series of classroom stations to learn about various types of weathering and erosion. Finalize your visit with a visit to our “Erosion Table” and “Earthquake Table”.

GPS. Develop your navigational skills and sharpen your technology skills through our GPS class. Students will learn plot points and navigate on the museum grounds through the use of Gamin GPS Systems.

Back to Nature. Explore outdoors to see how weather has shaped the grounds at Mid-America Science Museum. Add a touch of technology by viewing various soil samples through our digital ProScopes as learn to distinguish types of rock formations.

 

Museum Math

3M’s – Museum, Math, and Measurement. Learn how all of this relates as you conduct observations on the bridge as you approach the museum. This introductory lesson on measurement can be structured to reinforce concepts of measurement, geometry, and counting that have been previously introduced.

Structures of Math. Visit the “Structures Area” to learn how math is used in the everyday task of bridge-building. Build your own bridge from marshmallows or gumdrops to learn which shapes form the strongest structures.

 

Force, Motion, and Machines

Weight on Me. Learn about force as you weigh various objects using the metric unit, Newtons and the standard unit, pounds. During select times you can apply what you know by visiting “Newton’s Corner” exhibit to see force in action.

 

Energy

Clickety Clack. Learn about weight, force, mass, friction, potential energy, kinetic energy, and more as you participate in this simple yet engaging activity that brings the transfer of energy to life. Apply what you’ve learned by going on an energy hunt inside the museum. How many exhibits can you find that relates to this "massive" topic?

 

Chemical and Physical Changes

Blushing Granny. Use indictors to detect acids and bases. With the careful manipulation of an alkaline solution with an indicator you can watch the chemical change occur right before your eyes.

Disappearing Stain. See how "chemical reactions" can remove chemicals from objects as you make stains disappear when certain chemicals are removed. This activity teaches about chemical property, physical property, chemical change, and mixture.

Home School Programs

Are you ready to take your home school education to the next level? Do you need new “thinking out of the box” experiences? Take a look at what Mid-America Science Museum has to offer through programs that enhance your home school curriculum.

 

Museum Math

We’re not just for the science lover, but the math lover too. These programs highlights math applications as it relates to various museum exhibits Available programs include 3M’s – Museum, Math, and Measurement and Structures of Math.

Science and Technology

Add some technology to your museum experience though programs that incorporate our Digital ProScopes and PICO Crickets robotics sessions. Available programs include A Closer Look at Science, Shrinking Robots, and Blending the Arts and Sciences.

 

Chemical and Physical Changes

Learn about chemical and physical properties through programs that allow students to explore compounds, mixtures, polymers, density, and conductivity. Available programs include Good Putty and Density Fun.

Science Camps

Our Science Camps offer fun for the whole family with engaging, hands-on science activities. One-and-a-half hour or three-hour programs are available at many times through the year. more

Boy Scouts

Let our experts help your Boy Scouts fulfill their badge requirements the hassle-free and fun way! Museum admission is included on the day of the Badge-Science-Circuit! Girl Scouts

Earn your badge requirements in one day.

Let our experts help your Girl Scouts fulfill their badge requirements the hassle-free and fun way! One session will complete all requirements for one Brownie Girl Scout Try-It or Junior Girl Scout Badge. Museum admission is included on the day of the Badge-Science-Circuit! Movers and Shakers

The wind can create a gentle breeze or make a powerful hurricane or tornado. An airplane couldn’t fly without the wind blowing over its wings. Can wind help you have fun? Visit various Museum exhibits and Badge Activity Stations and complete at least four activities to find out, while meeting the "Movers" badge requirements.

Science Wonders

Try these activities to see how wonderful science is. The changes seem like magic, but scientist can make them happen and you get to be the scientist. Visit various Museum exhibits and Badge Activity Stations and complete at least four activities to meet the badge requirements.
